Oxnard, Calif. – More than 350 people gathered to support the Boys& Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme on Nov. 17, raising $257,357. Proceeds from the 18th Annual Donald K. Facciano KidsAuction will support the 7,000 youth served at the 24 Boys & Girls Club sites throughout Oxnard and Port Hueneme.
“This event definitely exceeded expectations,” said Tim Blaylock, chief professional officer of the Boys & Girls Club. “It goes to show just how much this community cares about these kids.”
The black tie event began with a silent auction before guests were escorted into the main ballroom for the live auction. Sherianne Cotterell, superindent of the Rio School District, spoke on the importance of providing music and art for children and introduced the Boys & Girls Club “Voices of Hope Choir,” a joint partnership with the Rio School District. The auction marked the choir’s first performance, which ended with a standing ovation.
Donations also came through the Sponsor-a-Youth portion of the evening where guests had the opportunity to make direct, unrestricted gifts to the club. Santa Barbara County Supervisor Salud Carbajal, a club alumnus, spoke about how the Club had been a safe haven for him and helped him pursue a college education. Through Carbajal’s message and a spontaneous anonymous donor, the room committed an unprecedented $51,500 to the club.
Major sponsors of this year’s auction included: The Village, Oxnard Village Investments, LLC presenting sponsor of the event; John Laing Homes, platinum sponsor; and Clearwater Port, Community Dynamics, Gills Onions, VCDSA and Sysco, annual sponsors of the club.
