The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme announced it will be hosting the 5th Annual Campaign for Kids Fundraising Breakfast on Thursday, April 26, 2007. Co-Chairs Retha Hux and Tony Volante said, “The Breakfast will be held at the Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge in Oxnard and is a chance for community and business leaders to come out and support our most important asset our children.”
The breakfast is a hosted event for all interested parties, and includes Keynote Speaker, Rafe Esquith winner of the American Teacher Award and Author of There Are No Shortcuts and Teach Like Your Hair’s on Fire. He teaches 5th grade at the 2nd largest elementary school in America Hobart in Los Angeles, with a poverty rate of over 97% of its students. The New York Times said, “Rafe Esquith is a genius and a saint. The American education system would do well to imitate him. These children’s lives have been changed by their year with this man.” |
