Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme Announces Donation From Montecito Branch Office of Smith Barney

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme , a local non-profit organization, announced today that it has received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from the Montecito branch office of Smith Barney. These grant dollars were made possible by the Citigroup Foundation as part of its local contributions program, which Smith Barney branches across the country participate in.

Tim Blaylock, Chief Professional Officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme commented, “The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme is pleased that a global business like Citigroup and Smith Barney has recognized our commitment to better serve the community. The funds will be used to enhance our NFTE (pronounced “Nifty”) program, created by the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). NFTE teaches youth the importance of being financially independent, how to go about setting up their own business, how to think like an entrepreneur, and how to improve their social skills.

The Boys Club of Oxnard was incorporated in 1954. The Boys Club of Port Hueneme was incorporated in 1978. The two Clubs merged in 1997 to become the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme . The organization has three charted Clubs, the Martin V Smith Branch, the Harriet H. Samuelsson Branch, and the Port Hueneme Branch. There are eleven extensions, including: Rio Rosales, Squires Public Housing Project, El Rio, Rio Plaza , Rio Del Valley, Rio Lindo, Rio Real, Rio Del Norte, Haycox, Larsen and Hathaway Elementary. The organization serves 6,700 youth at 14 different service locations. The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Core program areas are Education and Career Development, Sports, Fitness & Recreation, Character and Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills and the Arts.

Gandy, Assistant Branch Manager and Financial Planning Specialist. Mr. Timothy Gandy instigated the initiative and selection process on behalf of Smith Barney.
